Featured BVI Island: Norman Island

Believed to be the setting of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island,” Norman Island has a history filled with pirates and hidden gold. While legends spur much of the talk of buried treasure, the amazing Caves – one of the most popular tourist attractions in the BVI – add to the allure of Norman Island.

This two and a half mile long island is located at the southern end of the British Virgin Islands, near the US Virgin Islands. Croatia’s Krka Waterfalls

When vacationing in Croatia, you must visit the Krka National Park to witness the beauty that is the Krka Waterfalls. The Krka River travels though deep canyons and lush forests, dropping in seven spectacular waterfalls.

The National Park is a valuable ornithological area, with as many as 222 bird species calling it home. Additionally, the area claims the only hawk training center in the country, and many enjoy the presentations that showcase the hawk trainers’ skills, including hunting with hawks.

With the lack of commercial interference, entering the Krka National Park in Croatia is like stepping back into time. The natural splendor along with the pleasant Mediterranean climate makes for a fabulous vacation destination. The weather is always perfect, even on days that might be considered too hot, thanks to the cool sea breeze and the mist off the waterfalls.

The spectacular views from the Krka Waterfalls will make you yearn to return to Croatia again and again.

Holiday Recipe for a Greek-style Party

It’s the season for cooking and entertaining. Host a Greece-style holiday party, complete with fabulous Greek dishes. We want to thank Skordalia.net for this fabulous cucumber and yogurt dip recipe.

Your guests will ooh and ahh over this delicious dip, and you will feel like you’re are back on the beautiful Greek island of Skopelos in Northern Sporades.

Cucumber and Yoghurt dip

Total preparation time : 15 minutes
Quantity this recipe will make : 10 servings or more

List of Ingredients :

2 medium size cucumbers
400g strained yoghurt
4 garlic cloves
2 tbsp. olive oil
2 tbsp. wine vinegar
a little salt
fresh chopped fennel
1 olive

Preparation Instructions :

Peel cucumbers and grate each one length-wise with course grater. Salt, allow to drain and press out excess liquid from grated cucumbers. Peel garlic cloves, remove sprout if it exists and crush them. Mix cucumber, garlic, vinegar and salt. Fold the yoghurt and the olive oil into the mixture.

Serving instructions :

Add the chopped fennel to garnish and the olive in the centre. Instead of fennel, you may use fresh chopped mint or fresh chopped dill.

Comments :

Made from thick, rich sheep’s milk yoghurt, this tangy sauce is part of the meze table in every Greek tavern. For a similar consistency with cow’s milk yoghurt, you must first drain it of excess water. The sauce is delicious served with fried eggplant and zucchini, lamb chops or meatballs, or as a dip for pita bread.
