If you are seeking a retreat to the exotic, or you want to literally get away from it all, you should spend a few days on Anegada.
The only of the BVI islands that is flat, Anegada was formed by the barrier reef unlike its southern neighbors, which are of volcanic origin. The highest point of the island reaches only 28 feet above sea level, which is probably how it received its name, which means “drowned land” in Spanish.
A BVI yacht charter to Anegada will take about two hours, but it is well worth the trip. The island itself is protected by the Horseshoe Reef, the largest coral reef, making it a great destination for snorkelers. Divers enjoy the area because of possibility to explore any of the three hundred recorded ship wrecks. An amazing amount of unique flora and fauna can be found here, such as the Anegada rock iguana, Caribbean roseate flamingoes, and wild orchids.
The few hundred island natives live off the ocean and enjoy the quirky lifestyle that living on this distinctive paradise requires.
